Abstract This paper presents an experimental case of the application of online motivational research, using an interactive link via email between the researcher and the sample. The case described (an experiment commissioned by the Market Research Department of Arnoldo Mondadori Editore and conducted by the Scenari Institute) helps to define the conditions under which it is possible to conduct online motivational research, with what differences, advantages and limits compared to more traditional techniques (e.g. focus groups). It represents an advance of online qualitative methodology, and shows positive results. The case history concerns a study of the relationship between the women readers of Donna Moderna and new media. The main results of this study show a considerable interest of women in new technologies. Women tend to have a pragmatic approach to new technologies and use the tools to simplify and improve aspects of their daily life.
